How to Measure Your Windows for a uPVC Quote (and Send It on WhatsApp)

In short
Measure the width and height of each opening at three points and note the smallest, take one photo of each opening with a tape across it, and note the room and floor. Send that on WhatsApp for a first estimate. The fabricator should still measure on site before making anything.
You do not need to be a mason to get a useful quote. Ten minutes with a tape and your phone is enough for a first estimate. Here is how.
What you need
- A measuring tape (a 5 m tape is ideal)
- Your phone
- A notebook, or just WhatsApp
Step 1: List your openings
Walk through the house and list every window and door you want, room by room: Bedroom 1, window. Bedroom 1, balcony door. Kitchen, window over the counter. Number them. It makes everything after this easier.
Step 2: Measure width and height
Measure the opening in the wall, not the glass.
- Width: measure across the opening at the top, the middle and the bottom. Write down the smallest.
- Height: measure from the sill to the top at the left, the middle and the right. Write down the smallest.
Openings are rarely perfectly square, especially in older houses. The smallest measurement is the safe one.

Step 3: Take one good photo per opening
Stand back so the whole opening is in the picture, with the tape stretched across it. Take it in daylight if you can. One clear photo tells us about the wall, the sill, the reveal and any old frame.
Step 4: Note what you want in each room
You do not need to decide everything yet, but these help:
- Which rooms are heated in winter (they usually need double glazing)
- Bathrooms that need frosted glass
- Rooms that need insect mesh
- Doors: single or pair, opening in or out
- Colour: white or woodgrain
Not sure which type of window suits each room? Read casement or sliding, room by room.
Step 5: Send it
Send your list, sizes and photos on WhatsApp with the location of your house. Or use our quote form: it adds up your openings and total area, then sends everything in one message.
What happens next
We reply with a first estimate based on your sizes. Then our team comes to measure every opening properly. That is when we check reveals, sill and floor levels, wall depth and access. Only after that do we fabricate. Nothing is made from guessed sizes.
Questions people ask
Should I measure the old frame or the wall opening?
Measure the opening in the wall (brick to brick or plaster to plaster). If the old frame is still in, measure it and tell us, and we will confirm the opening on site.
Feet, inches or millimetres?
Any unit is fine. Just tell us which one you used. Our quote form accepts feet, inches, centimetres and millimetres.
Will you measure again before making the windows?
Yes. Rough sizes are for the estimate. We measure every opening on site before fabrication.
